This is the central alley, the "avenue" of Monemvasia., the one that goes from the entrance of the castletown to its main square. It is the street where most of the picturesque cafes and taverns are. You can also find shops with artwork and traditional products. This street was called "Mesi odos" (means "middle road") by the Byzantines, "Foro" by the Venetians and "Bazar" by the Ottoman. The photo was taken from the yard of the house where the great Greek poet, Yannis Ritsos was born and raised.
