More information:

When the efforts were made to farm the Imperial Valley, the only water initially came from the Alamo River. Then, due to a series of floods on the Colorado River, a New River emerged. However, both ran through Mexico before turning north to California. So when the opportunity arose, an ALL AMERICAN CANAL was trenched on the US side of the border and it can with five power drops for electricity. There was enough water through this grand canal to also feed a valley north of the inland Salton Sea. As coastal cities demanded more and more California water, it was decided to line the big canal with concrete. This helped with the water loss through seepage, but it has made it very difficult for illegal aliens to egress the canal after the swim across. Various groups continue to protest this situation. Monitoring devices, in addition to the US Border Patrol, continue to be in close proxiimity of this canal. Power lines are from the electrical drops located on the canal
