The telephone Network Interface Device (NID) connects a home telephone line to the telephone company network. It contains a modular phone plug that you can use for testing. Take a corded phone to the NID on the outside of your home, and plug it into the phone jack in that box. If you do not get a dial tone, then the problem lies in the phone company wiring somewhere.
