Aysgill Force is about a mile upstream from Gayle, a village adjacent to Hawes, in Wensleydale. This black and white Spring-time image captures the drama and ethereal beauty of the 40 foot fall of water as it enters the narrow sun-dappled and tree-lined gorge. In a secluded position, the waterfall might be missed but for the roar of the water. After a heavy rain, however, the volume of noise increases dramatically, as the water plunges across the full width of the waterfall, and the calm is shattered.
