Student Yulia Beldebury of Pleasanton plants Grenache vines as the new Las Positas College vineyard takes shape in Livermore, Calif., on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007. The college's Viticulture and Winery Technology program is several years old, but did not have its own vineyard. The 3-acre vineyard includes varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, Tempranillo/Graciano, Touriga Nacional and more. It will take three to five years for the vineyard to yield a usable harvest for wine making. (Cindi Christie/Contra Costa Times)
