Treptow Park, Berlin - The memorial was built to the design of Yakov Belopolsky to commemorate the 5000 Soviet soldiers who died in the Battle of Berlin in 1945. The entrance is a sculpture of a weeping woman representing the Motherland mourning the loss of her sons. A broad path leads up to two red granite sculptures representing soviet flags. The granite flags frame the main monument which is a sculpture of a Soviet soldier holding a child and a sword and standing over a broken swastika. This statue is flanked by 16 sarcophagi bearing military scenes and quotes from Joseph Stalin.
