SOMALIA. Saa'moja / Kisamayo: In a handout photograph released by the African Union-United Nations Information Support Team 01 October, a soldier of the Somali National Army (SNA) gestures in Saa'moja, an area approx. 7km outside the Somali port city of Kismayo. For the last two months, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM)'s Kenyan Contingent in support of the SNA has been steadily liberating areas and villages in Southern Somalia formally under the control of the Al Qaeda-affiliated extremist group Al Shabaab, which has brought them to the outskirt's of the group's last major stronghold. On the back of a string of strategic and territorial losses to SNA and AMISOM forces across Somalia over the last 12 months, commanders are now making final preparations to move into Kismayo and liberate the city completely from Al Shabaab control.
