These ruby-tailed wasps are brood parasites of other wasps and certain bee species. They are called "cuckoo wasps" because they lay their eggs in the nests of their host species. Their larvae eat the larvae and food stores of the host insect. There are several very similar species. This one is likely to be in the Chrysis "ignita" group, but species cannot be identified with certainty from photographs.
