Holy Cross Ghost Town, Eagle County, Colorado, USAMore information:
Tracks up to mines were often difficult to construct. One way of crossing wet or boggy ground was to lay tree trunks across the road to make a platform for wagons to pass over. The rough logs when laid side by side resembled the corduroy that the miners often wore. Hence these roads became known as corduroy roads.
