Pyramids of Meroe, Bagrawiyah, Africa.The archeological site, 200km north of the Sudanese capital Khartoum consists of one of the largest groups of pyramids in the world. The pyramids had the same Necropolitical use as those farther north in Egypt, the graveyards of kings.In recent years, several of the smaller pyramids were, badly, rebuilt by the Sudanese government The city of Meroe was capital of the Kingdom of Kush from 800 B.C. to approximately 280 B.C. when the area was overtaken by Ethiopians from the kingdom of Axum. Since 2003, Meroe has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
