Private Johnson Beharry, 25 a soldier who single-handedly saved 30 colleagues as he guided them through an enemy ambush in Iraq was awarded the first Victoria Cross in over two decades. Private Johnson Beharry, 25, was struck by bullet fire and under constant attack as he guided a Warrior armoured convoy through the flashpoint town of Al Amarah last May. His is the first Victoria Cross bestowed since Lieutenant Colonel Herbert Jones and Sergeant Ian John McKay received posthumous awards following the Falklands War.
