In 1898 the company merged with Nankai Railway; it is now known as Nankai Electric Railway. Below the overpass, the railroad crossing can be seen. At this time, trains still stopped at crossings. A Christmas special steam train is heading from Southend on Sea in Essex to Chichester in Sussex to give its passengers the chance to visit yuletide markets and a special carol service. The train is being operated by Steam Dreams and hauled by Stanier Class 5 number 45231 named ‘The Sherwood Forester’. The 1936-built locomotive is seen here at Leigh on Sea station at dawn taking on passengers and water for its trip. 45231 served with British Rail until the very last days of BR steam in 1968 then passed into preservation. RM2GK3GBM–A RM-class diesel train of New Zealand Railways Department (NZR) seen in a New Zealand station in 1960. The RM (Rail Motor) class 88-seaters were a class of 3-carriage railcar. There were 35 sets in total from RM100 to RM134 – this train is number 114. These trains were in service from 1955 until 1978. A special steam train is heading from Shoeburyness in Essex to Portsmouth Harbour in Hampshire to give its passengers the chance to visit the historic maritime port city. The train is being operated by Steam Dreams and hauled by LNER Thompson Class B1 number 61306 named Mayflower, resplendent in an Apple Green livery. The 1948-built locomotive is seen here at Leigh on Sea station taking on water for its trip, where it mixed with regular C2C trains with morning commuters whose services aren’t affected by today’s strikes.
