Liuguan Old Han Village, Guizhou Province, ChinaMore information:
Liuguan Han Village in Guizhou Province contains a remnant population of Han people (called Old Han, and also called Tunpu) who migrated to the area early in the Ming Dynasty (AD 1382) during a military invasion to suppress the local tribes. They live in fortified stone houses, unlike the wooden houses of the other ethnic minority peoples in the area. They still perform one of the oldest surviving operas om the world called the Ground Opera (Dixi). The opera is famed for the performers' symbolic masks.
