Mount Rainier National Park. Mount Rainier (14, 410 ft, in west central Washington state) is part of the Cascade Mountain Range of western North America, here seen from the south near Plummer Peak. The mountain is the focal point for hiking and camping in Mt Rainier National Park. For the first time ever, in November 2006, the park was temporarily closed due to violent river floods and debris flows. The mountain had over 18 inches of rain in about 24 hours, ripping out roads, bridges and trails all throughout the park.
