RMR9HTKP–engraving of the first design for a steam powered locomotive machine, designed to run on road not rails. Although attributed to James Watt by the Illustrated London News in an 1851 edition, it was in fact designed by William Murdoch (as early as 1782). Watt considered it too dangerous and so it was not developed by the Watt company. It was however developed by Richard Trevithick into one of the earliest steam locomotives to run on rails.
