Climbing Maya Nose, or Indian's Nose over Lake Atitlan in Guatemala affords incredible views over the lake, and of the surrounding Volcanoes San Pedro and Atitlan, as well as the many towns that border the lakeshore. Tour companies and local guides offer guided sunrise or sunset hikes for backpackers, travelers and tourists to watch the changing light over Lago de Atitlan from the lookout towers high on the volcanic cliffs. It is recommended to have an experienced guide lead the tours, as there is still risk of robbery or assault in the areas surrounding the villages of this Guatemalan destination. The lights of San Pedro and San Juan can be faintly seen glowing on the shoreline beneath.
