The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, today launched the UK’s first compulsory sobriety ‘tag’ programme for binge drinkers. The scheme will see offenders convicted of persistent drink-related offences like assault or criminal damage given ankle tags that will be used to monitor the body for alcohol. If the offenders continue to consume alcohol they will be brought before a judge or magistrate who will consider further sanctions including a possible prison sentence.
