RMMHJ2YD–A 19th Century view of the Dutch Church, Austin Friars before it was destroyed during the London Blitz. It was located on the site of the 13th-century Augustinian friary and after it was dissolved in 1538, it was granted to Protestant refugees for church services in 1550 by King Edward VI. By 1570, the Dutch community was the largest group of expatriates in London, half of them were Protestants who fled the Flemish Low Countries due to religious persecution. Others were skilled craftsman who came to England for economic opportunities.
