Outer wall of the church of St. Peter in Tuscania in central Italy. The beautiful basilica of San Pietro is the main monument of Tuscania. It was built in the 8th century and renovated in the 11th century in Romanesque Lombard style. In this photo, we can see the outer decoratives elements: the lombard band, consisting of a row of small blind arches divided by vertical small pilasters, and the lesene, a decorative feature consisting of half-columns protruding from the wall itself, with capital and base. We can see also an hole in the wall with a bird's nest. There are many species of birds that use the walls of the ancient monuments or buildings for nest.
