Windmill, gristmill, Molen, De Adriaan is a smock or smocked mill, a wooden towered mill, built in 1778 on the foundations of an ancient defensive tower near the center of the town on the Spaarne River. In 1932 it was destroyed by fire. It has taken 70 years to rebuild. It's a working mill and a museum. Restaurant Zuidam is to the right of the windmill, housed in a former shipyards building, after which it is named. Haarlem is usually a day trip from Amsterdam. The Capital of the province of Noord-Holland is a 15 minute train ride from Amsterdam Central Station. Molen De Adriaan Papentorenvest 1a, 2011 AV Haarlem The Netherlands. [www.molenadriaan.nl]
