Istanbul, Turkey. 6th June 2013. On 31st May a previously peaceful protest against the demolition of Gezi Park and the construction of another shopping mall in its place at Taksim Square turned violent when police attacked protesters with teargas and water canons early in the morning. A two days fight with extreme and unjust police brutality followed. Finally police withdrew and since then Taksim Square and Gezi Park are occupied by a great variety of Turkish citizen. Many put up tents and stay overnight. Photo by CLAUDIA WIENS/Alamy Live News
