More information:

Bern is one of the first cities to have experimented with safe drug injection rooms. Addicts can come with their own drugs (including heroin and cocaine) and inject themselves at the centre. Security personnel outside the compound check that addicts are at least 18 year-old of age. The centre provides information about therapy to fight addiction, clean syringes, cheap meals. Social workers listen to drug addicts and a doctor regularly visits the centre to provide medical services. More than two decades after its opening, the Bern drug injection room has become a key aspect of local authorities to deal with social and health issues associated with drug consumption.
