Greencliff Beach, near Bideford, Devon, UK.More information:
Detailed view of the pebbled beach at Greencliff near Bideford in summer. Low angled view looking along the pebbled beach at mid tide towards Bucks Mills. This is one of North Devon's secret hideaways, loved by the locals and walkers exploring the National Trust Coastal path. As the tide drops the rocky shore is exposed. A small amount of wreckage from a small coaster, the Eva V, which ran aground her in 1980 can be seen at low tide. Remains of an old lime kiln can be found here. Coal and limestone were transported by boat to other kiln sites in North Devon from Wales. This site is unusual in that it used local coal known as 'Bideford Black'. The lime produced here was used as a fertiliser, for buildings and in paints.
