Giant Stag Beetle (Lucanus elaphus), male silhouetted on Bigleaf Magnolia (Magnolia macrophylla) leaf. This species appears in early summer and is often seen in old growth and old 2nd growth forests with a signifcant hardwood canopy. Oaks are a favored tree.
