The former chief executive of Railtrack, Gerald Corbett, arrives at Central Hertfordshire Magistrates Court in St Albans. Mr Corbett is one of six men summoned to appear in court to answer for the October 2000 Hatfield rail disaster. * The six, from Railtrack s successor company Network Rail and maintenance firm Balfour Beatty, were charged by the Crown Prosecution Service with four counts of manslaughter due to gross negligence and an offence under the Health and Safety at Work Act. They will join another six men, including former Railtrack chief executive Gerald Corbett, now chairman of Woolworths, who received summonses for an offence under health and safety legislation. 26/12/04: Gerald Corbett, who it has been reported, is being lined up to become chairman of drinks group Britvic.
