The gatehouse at the Chateau du Rivau, Indre et Loire. This fine example of a medieval Chateau, built in the 15th Century is open to the Public from April through to October. The national stud (Ecuries National) was also located here and the buildings have been restored. There is an important link with Joan of Arc, who acquired horses here before the siege of Orleans during the 100 years war. The Chateau has extensive grounds that have been converted to charming, "fairy tale" gardens particularly designed with children in mind. There is an excellent restaurant and the internal rooms in the Chateau are open to the public under a single comprehensive, extremely reasonable, entry fee.
