Gap House. A new build eco house on a narrow site in West London designed to minimise its Carbon footprint. It won an RIBA award in 2009 and was a finalist in Grand Designs Eco House of the Year 2008. The building utilises passive solar design, high levels of insulation, a ground coupled heat pump, and rainwater harvesting to reduce its impact on the environment. This was achieved despite a site only 8ft wide to the street, within a conservation area and jammed between two listed buildings. The building is a comfortable family house and also an example of how sustainable architecture can be achieved without compromise on the tightest of sites.
