Dundee, Tayside, Scotland, UK, June 26th , 2014, Paintings of Dundee Icons Desperate Dan, Oor Wullie and Dennis The Menace on DC Thomson Courier Buildings at Kingsway East in Dundee. Oor Wullie is a Scottish comic strip published in the D.C. Thomson newspaper The Sunday Post. It features a character called Wullie, the familiar Scots nickname for boys named William. Desperate Dan is a wild west character in the British comic The Dandy. He made his appearance in the first issue which was dated 4 December 1937. He is apparently the world's strongest man, able to lift a cow with one hand. The pillow of his (reinforced) bed is filled with building rubble and his beard is so tough he shaves with a blowtorch. Dennis the Menace (UK comics), the original title of a British comic strip which first appeared in "The Beano" on March 7, 1951 in the edition cover dated March 17, 1951; now published as Dennis the Menace and Gnasher.
