(dpa) - German and Polish border control officers together check the papers of travellers at the Polish-German border crossing at the Stadtbruecke (city bridge) in Frankfurt Oder, eastern Germany, 11 December 2003. Usually, travellers have to show their papers twice when crossing the border. The aim of the joint border controls at the checkpoints in Frankfurt Oder and Kuestrin-Kietz is to accelerate the clearance and to speed up the traffic flow. The border controls between Germany and Poland will continue even after Poland becomes a EU member on 1 May 2004. They will only be dropped when Poland will comply to the requirements of 'Schengenland'.
