A team of German relief organisation 'Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe' visited Jacmel on 16 January reporting that of 35.000 inhabitants 5.000 had found shelter in emergency camps, the rest was forced to live in the streets. 1.300 buildings and seven schools were totally destroyed in the magnitude 7 earthquake.
