16 October 2014, CRYSTAL PALACE, SOUTH LONDON. A public consultation session is held today on the plans put forward by London Mayor, Boris Johnson, to redevelop and improve sports facilities at Crystal Palace. The 1950s National Sports Centre is Grade II* listed but it is now said to be underused and in poor condition. Plans would include restoration of the original 'Paxton Axis" through the park together with a redesigned interior preserving the original Olympic swimming pool. A new primary school and a new college building are included in the plans as part of the Mayor's manifesto commitment to secure sites for free schools using public assets. Crystal Palace Park as a whole is managed by the London Borough of Bromley.
