The Brighton Bandstand also known as the Birdcage was designed in 1883 and constructed in 1884, It was originally built as a sheltered area for ladies to rest and admire the sea views, but soon became popular with Gentleman and Bands. The bandstand was a popular venue through the 1960s until a change in appreciation for historic preservation took hold of Brighton in the mid-1960s. The bandstand started to decay from neglect, the bandstand was left unused until 2008 when Brighton and Hove Council fully funded the renovation. The grade II listed building is now fully restored and is used both as a musical venue and has a cafe downstairs.
