Bengal Lancers of the British India Army - during 1897 there was a series of attacks on British forces along the Afghan border. Following the abolition of the presidency armies by Army Department Order Number 981 dated 26 October 1894, the Indian Army was formed. During the 1890s, its main purpose was to prevent an invasion of India via Afghanistan and the North-West Frontier.
