Sitting above the Atlantic ocean on top of a high cliff is the historic Belmond Reid's Palace Hotel, Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. Often called the Pink Palace, it has attracted such names as General Fulgencio Batista, Winston Churchill, Anthony Eden, David Lloyd George, deposed emperor Karl von Habsburg, Roger Moore, Gregory Peck, the poet Rainer Maria Rilke, the missionary Albert Schweitzer, and author/playwrite George Bernard Shaw
