Colorized historical images of the Richelieu apartment complex in Pass Christian, Mississippi, before and after Hurricane Camille (1969). Camille was a Category 5 hurricane when it made landfall near the mouth of the Mississippi River in August of 1969. The hurricane claimed hundreds of lives in the region. The Richelieu Manor Apartments became the storied site of a 'hurricane party' held by 23 residents who neglected to evacuate, 8 of whom subsequently died in the storm. After the destruction of the apartments, a shopping complex was built on the site, later to be destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
