An executioner's sword, Solingen, dated 1698 Flat, double-edged blade with a blunt, lightly rounded point. The lower third is somewhat pitted. There is an etched saying on one side, "Ich Muß straffen daß verbrechen - Als wie Recht und Richter sprechen." (I have to punish crime as the law and judge tell me.) On the opposite side there is a city coat of arms with laurel and oak branches, probably a later etching from around 1850. "Solingen Anno 1698" is inscribed on the ricasso, with a copper mark and the monogram "RL" on the other side, separated by an orb. Fire,
