Almond Blossoms in Modesto California one of the water hungry crops of California's Central Valley. More and more acreage has been converted to nut crops in the central valley. Nut crops require a constant yearly source of water versus row crops which are seasonal and won't be planted in dry years. They say that each almond requires one gallon of water per year to grow. In 2015 California farmers wont get any Federal water for their crops so all irrigation water must come from State of California water projects.
