The woman belongs to the Rabari community, semi-nomadic pastoralists from western India. Staunch hindus, they believe they are the descendants of Shiva, one of the main hindu god. Among Rebari, as well as among other traditional minded castes, giving birth to a boy is welcome. For many reasons, it is better for a woman to have a boy than a girl. Especially if she is still young, she will be respected by her in-laws.
