A memorial on remote Trimouille Island in the Montebello Islands records where British forces detonated an atomic weapon. The first test was carried out in the Bay of Trimouille in 1952, with two further tests (on Alpha and Trimouille Islands) in 1956. The archipelago of about 174 islands was chosen for is remoteness, 130 kms off the coast of north western Australia. In fact, it's so remote and attracts so few visitors, that Google Earth records it only as a blur.
