A large marble bust of Aulus Vitellius,of Roman style,baroque period.Portrayed in the typical left facing posture of the head,with scale armour and thrown over cloak.The right side of the face destroyed.Height 78 cm,width 78 cm.Aulus Vitellius was crowned Roman Emperor in April 69 A.D,the so called Year of the Four Emperors,on the 20th of December of that year he was already publicly displayed on the Gemonian stairs by Marcus Antonius Primus,who had him tortured to death,dragged through Rome on a hook and thrown into the Tiber.The biographer Sueton,Additional-Rights-Clearences-Not Available
