Designed and built in the 1880s by Colonial Architect, James Barnet, the old gaol housed convicted persons from September 1882 and continued until September 1982. After much debate the old gaol became a Heritage Centre. The Narrabri Historical Society now houses its collection in the old gaol section and opened Narrabri’s Museum to the public in 1988.
