St Cuthbert's Cave, near Belford, NorthumberlandMore information:
The cave is reputed to be one of places where monks sought shelter after fleeing in 875AD from Viking raids on Lindisfarne or Holy Island bearing the body and other relics of St Cuthbert before finally settling at Durham after some years of wanderings. The large rocks in front of the cave bear modern memorial inscriptions to members of the Leather family.
