In December 2007 finance secretary John Swinney announced that a new cable-stayed bridge would be constructed as a replacement for the existing road bridge, with an estimated cost of between £3.25 billion and £4.22 billion. The bridge's completion is scheduled for sometime in 2016. The Northern point, near Rosyth, where the bridge will leave to cross the river.
