Potato harvest machinery in Burscough, Lancashire. UK Weather. Farmers using Fendt 820 tractors and Grimme KSA 75-2 two-row trailed harvester are lifting a crop of farm potatoes as the hot, dry dusty summer conditions continue. Farmers' representatives are warning of serious concerns if the extended spell of hot, dry weather continues. Potatoes are the latest crop in line for price rises thanks to a shortage caused by an unusually cold winter, followed by the scorching summer. Herbicide, carfentrazone-ethyl is applied to a crop shortly before harvest to kill the foliage.
