Portsmouth, Va. Kristie Ledman, a radiation therapist in Naval Medical Center Portsmouth’s (NMCP) Radiation Oncology Division, demonstrates operation of the TrueBeam linear accelerator to Capt. Christopher Culp, NMCP’s commanding officer; Rear Adm. Anne Swap, commander, Navy Medicine East; and Capt. Carolyn Rice, NMCP’s executive officer. The Radiation Oncology Division debuted a new Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator during the Jan. 25 open house and held a ribbon cutting for the $4.5-million machine that is revolutionary in the way it treats cancerous and benign tumors.
