Portrait of Thaddeus Lowe, a self educated scientist, inventor and aeronaut who is regarded as being the father of military aerial reconnaissance in the United States. Thaddeus Sobieski Constantine Lowe made significant contributions during the American Civil War, formulated advanced theories in meteorological sciences and harbored a long-standing ambition of undertaking a transatlantic flight.
