The artistic fountain ("barchile") which is now in Piazza Colombo, was designed in 1643 by Pietro Antonio and Ottavio Corradi and built by G. B. Orsolino originally for beautify the Ponte Reale (Royal Bridge). The fountain was inaugurated in 1646 and later embellished with a winged fame that plays the marine niche, the work of Jacopo Garvo. In 1861, the monument was moved to Piazza Colombo, after a special municipal decision. The group is composed in the lower part of four dolphins and in the upper of four interlaced caryatids which also raise at the top a large marble cup from whose center rises a winged fame that sounds the marine niche.
