Owens Valley, California 1943 View from a guard tower of the Manzanar Relocation Center, one of the smaller Internment camps for Japanese-Americans. Photograph shows the western side of the grounds with the Sierra Nevada Mountains. At its peak, Manzanar held around 10,000 inmates, with the first inmates arriving in 1942, and the last leaving in 1945. Today, it is preserved as a National Historic Site. Photograph by Ansel Adams.
