Nicolas Landemard / Le Pictorium - National Conservatism NatCon conference in Brussels. - 19/04/2024 - Belgium / Brussels / Brussels - Arrival and speech by Viktor Orban. On April 16 and 17, 2024, the Edmund Burke Foundation organized the National Conservatism Conference in the Belgian capital. A symposium with a varied panel of guests whose intellectual, social and political positions are very much in the conservative right or even the extreme right. The local press spoke of a gathering of the leading figures of the European far right. A conference that was twice cancelled by the venues and then by the mayor of the commune of Saint Josse, Emir Kir, even though the conference was starting at a 3rd venue. In the end, although a decree had been issued for fear of disturbing public order, the police did not evacuate the premises, but simply blocked people's entry and exit. The mayor's decision sparked indignation among Belgian politicians, including the liberal Prime Minister, who saw it as an attack on democratic debate.
