Most fire fighters were saved during an early 20th Century fire when their fire boss had them take refuge in an abandoned mine tunnel. That man, Big Ed Pulaski saved most of his 43 man fire crew from death. They hid in the Nicholson Mine Tunnel, which was later re-named in honor of the fire boss who saved so many lives, during a teirrble wild fire.
